"करुणा ही प्रेम है ; सेवा ही धर्म है"

The Deceiving Mirror

Have you seen Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone? Remember the mirror in which Harry saw his dead parents and Ron saw himself as captain of Quidditch?

We all are living with that…everyday in our minds. We believe if we achieve a certain thing we will be happiest on earth. We will live our best life. But the truth is all we are imagining is like watching ourselves into that mirror of fantasies while missing out on the real required “Karm” for the moment which truly matters…

It is difficult to stay empty and thus we catch something to hung upon to. It is hardest for our minds to not think about something and that is why there is always a thought lingering upon pin pointing what we do not have.

Don’t you more often think of that girl or guy who denied you? And pity upon the person who was dying hard for you? Those failed exam results haunt teenagers for years, while they do not even matter a few years down the line.

The criticism that came harsh stucks in our minds more often than the appreciation received with round of applause. The ignorance hits harder than the comfort of companionship. The promotions take a back seat for the heart after a few weeks but the broken expectations and firing mails stay somewhere in the core of heart.

Mind is made up like that, once you have it, the value is gone. The deceiving mirror in our mind reminds us what we do not have, only to linger upon our fantasies.

Observing the patterns of those lingering unsettled emotions is more important than working hard for things which are unachievable. Because there will always be something which will be beyond reach. And your mind will always be ready with next fantasy that the deceiving mirror will show you.

You married your love? Waw! Such a beautiful thing to happen to anyone!! But how long will that happiness last? It will fall down to a level of peacefull companionship.

You lost your love? How devastating is that!! But how long will that pain haunt you? Slowly though painfully, you will make peace with your reality. But you know what, pain is not just an emotion, it comes with life lessons. Hence, it is a blessing in disguise, a treasure in coal mine, depending upon how you channelise the emotional energy it carries.

Emotional mind has craving patterns and the more you fall into it’s traps the more you are going to suffer. And thus it is super important to identify whether a thought is just an emotional craving or something concrete to base our actions upon.

I would not say suppressing your emotions is always the right thing. If you have a recurring emotion, may be you are running away from something you should work on or accept in real life.

Living something with acceptance is always easier than fighting with the emotions. If there is something you can do about living your desire, do it. Live it and slowly get detached.

But if you can not do anything about it, medidate on it and let it go till your peace is restored.
