Recalling and Retention

My mom with her passion for books, the core reason of my love for the books. 📚

As a school kid I was obsessed with the best possible work in my studies. Because that’s what my parents have always instilled in me and my siblings as one of the core values. However, I often stayed as a disappointed student who worked hard and never got the results she wanted. This was a huge whining point of my life. For years I kept on studying with my faulty study mechanism and kept weeping over the heart wracking results. The results were not unfair, the methods and the focus I applied during the process were faulty.

I used to read academic books like a novel multiple times just in hope of remembering everything. I knew there was something wrong in what I was doing because hardly 5% of the stuff was there that I used to be able to recall.

The method kept on going till once I failed tremendously and got stuck in my Finals. I tried multiple times to clear the exams but could not. Because the kind of quality it required was never built up in my mental system.

Evolution in the valleys of snow 🌨️❄️

That’s when I understood how evolution works. Human mind works in surprising ways. When you refuse to give up, God’s grace transforms you like a pheonix. My mind deployed its creative system on work and that transformed my learning methods.

Today when I study for an examination, I prepare in chunks instead of reading it like a novel for hours, I take multiple breaks and recall in between the gaps. I use a small 8 beads garland to practice repetition of formulas, numbers, dates etc. I take multiple small tests and keep the incorrect answers as a review bucket for further repetition practices.

Originally it had 8 beads! Later I switched to 9! But yeah, 8 or 9 both works great!
Choose as per your convenience!

I won’t say I never failed again, but I know the input quality of my learning and the confidence my heart carries has aced due to that transformation.

You would ask why fail then? I feel failures are really good buddy! It shows we are trying out of our comfort zone. It shows we are hitting a mark which is beyond our current skill set. Am not glamourising failures resulted due to procrastination. But am definitely celebrating the efforts we put in even with a hectic schedule and breaking body pain. When your current best self fails it’s time for unfolding a better version of you. It’s time to deploy the creative side of your mind on work to find the “how” of the problem.

I know not everyone enjoys hitting beyond the current comfort zone. But once we learn to fall and get up again running becomes a passion. When the fear of failure vanishes, every day becomes a video game with a race to the next level.

Relaxation retreats help in recalling & retention

Am not saying to hardly take a rest or have fun. Do everything that refreshes your heart and mind. That’s how we become ready for the next day. All am saying is we can have an exciting work ethic when we balance the input quality with a resting and fun week.

So what’s the next challenge of life that you are taking? And what are your plans to include rest and fun for the week?
